Budatín Castle is one of the oldest standing architectural monuments in the territory of the city of Žilina. The oldest medieval castle was built at the confluence of Váh and Kysuca in the second half of the 13th century. The first written mention of it as Budetyn castrum dates from 1321, when its owner, Matúš Čák Trenčiansky died.
It was built in swampy terrain on a low rock cliff, the area of which was expanded with an artificial clay embankment. Since 1956, its premises have become part of the Považské Museum. After arriving at the complex, you have the opportunity to visit the park and the chapel for free at any time during opening hours. In the castle building, after purchasing tickets, you can see the castle exhibits.
