JANKO VLASTIMIL MATÚŠKA was born on 10 January 1821 in Dolný Kubín.
He died with money difficulties and as a result of a serious illness on 11 January 1877 in his birthplace, in his beloved Orava. The current "Flying Muse" tombstone was unveiled on 4 October 1978 as part of the 24th Hviezdoslav Kubín. The author is academic sculptor Ladislav Berák and architect Ľ. Kupkovic.
On his grave in Dolný Kubín is written: "Svoji svomu!"
