The castle, originally a medieval castle from the 13th century, officially referred to as a mansion, is the most important architectural and historical monument of the town of Hlohovec. The three-story building in the shape of an irregular pentagon offers wonderful views of the surroundings. It was a royal border castle, one of the oldest in Považie. Its history is connected with important noble families from the Abov family, the Ilok family to the Thurzo family, the Forgáč family and the Erdödy family, who were the last owners of the castle. The castle served as a reformatory for many decades. After its relocation, the castle was inaccessible to the public and fell into disrepair until 2014, when work began on its restoration. Since 2018, the renovated part of the castle building has been open to the public again. Visitors can enjoy the permanent exhibition of the Heritage Museum, a virtual tour of the original form of the castle, gallery spaces with current exhibitions, a chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary and a courtyard that provides space for cultural events.
