The castle from the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries was originally built as a guardhouse on the road to Turca, where tolls were collected. Massive multiple fortifications on the western and southern sides – strong walls, towers, bastions, 4 gates made it the best fortified castle in upper Považí. The personal story of Žofia Bosniaková is most closely related to Strečno Castle. It is above all a story of love for one's husband, for God and for the poor. Her intact remains were found in the castle crypt and taken to the church in Teplička nad Váhom. In 1970, Strečno Castle was declared a national cultural monument. After long-term reconstruction work, it has been available to the public since 1995 as a preserved ruin. In 2013, a free accessible recreation zone with the medieval village of Paseka was built in the lower castle.
Access to the castle is possible in the form of an organized tour with a guide.
In addition to a tour of the building, historical exhibits, an exhibition room and a chapel are accessible.
