The building of the former branch of the Austro-Hungarian Bank is the oldest free-standing purpose-built bank building in Žilina, which was built in 1912 in the neoclassical style. The building was designed by one of Hungary's most prominent architects, Jozef Hubert, a native of Bratislava working in Budapest. After World War I, the building belonged to a branch of the Czech-Slovak National Bank. In 1936-1937, a second floor with apartments was added to the building. Throughout the 20th century, it served as the headquarters of banking institutions. The building complements the atmosphere of Legionárska Street, in the neighbourhood of three important buildings: the New Synagogue of Peter Behrens, the Rosenfeld Palace and the building of the University of Žilina. In the given location, it creates a specific atmosphere of the territory, where the building styles of art nouveau, classicism and functionalism intertwine. The historical building is designed as a distinctive three-story single-family house on a rectangular floor plan, or floor plan in the shape of the letter E. It has a basement throughout, with a high hipped roof, a central entrance, a facade on each side and an area of greenery. The entire architecturally complex building is equipped with numerous additions of artistic and craft character: stucco, stonework elements, forged railings, door and window inlays. The monumentality of the building is emphasized by the symmetrical, tectonically divided mass composition with the main entrance in the central axial dimension, a raised ground floor with an entrance, an access staircase and a significantly oversized second above-ground floor. The complex reconstruction of the building in 2015 transformed the interior into modern office space, while preserving the historic spirit of the exterior and common areas.
