The new edition of 0 Euro Souvenir commemorates the centenary of the release of the first Slovak film Jánošík, created in co-production with the U.S.A.
It is not so surprising that the authors of the adventure-romantic silent film decided on our national hero, a bandit, whose courageous actions and relationship with the common people from whom he came, crossed the borders not only of his native Terchová, but also of Slovakia. The sensation is rather the fact that the film, which was lost for a long time, has been preserved to this day without significant damage and in its original quality.
The author of the motif is Stanislav Lajda, and in the drawing for this edition he decided to include the main character played by the then 26-year-old popular Czech actor Theodor Pištěk / 1895 -1960 / courting Anica, who was portrayed by the first Slovak film actress Mária Nováková - Fábryová / 1900 - 1973 / . The view of the couple in love is one of the most famous sequences of the film.
However, the most important fragment of the edition are the portraits of the siblings Jaroslav and Daniel Siakeľov, who contributed to the realization of the film as director and cameraman. The exterior of the film was shot in the vicinity of his native Blatnica. As emigrants, they gained rich experience in American film studios. The brothers were holders of several patents in the field of film and camera technology. Elder Daniel Siakeľ / 1886 - 1946 / was captured by the author in the drawing while operating his camera attached to the stand. Jaroslav / 1896 - 1997 / incorporated into the centre of the composition, while concentrating on observing the shot.
In the background is part of a period advertising poster for the film and the original form of the inscription of the Tatra Film Corporation studio, which produced the film.
The film Jánošík was received with a positive response from the audience and critics and dignified the history of Slovak cinematography and a whole series of other film adaptations of the eventful life of Juraj Jánošík.
