VILLAGE KŠINNA

ksinna

The village of Kšinná is located in the southern part of the Strážovská vrchovina (highlands), in the valley of the Radiša stream, at an altitude of 350 m. It appears in archive documents since 1352, but first under the name villa XYNNA. The village is, however, much older, as evidenced by various archaeological finds of Slavic settlement from the 8th century, which were preceded by excavations of a Neolithic settlement, as well as an ashtray burial ground of the Lusatian culture from the younger Bronze Age and grave finds from the time of migration of peoples. Hamlets Rakovec, U Hajšov, Na Novine, Stavanie are part of the village. The village also includes the local part of Závada pod Čiernym vrchom, which was an independent municipality until 1976. Závada includes Šebeňov and Filov laz, which were burned by the Nazis.
A historical and cultural monument and at the same time a dominant feature of the village is a picturesque medieval church located on a hill above the village in the area of the previous castle. The Romanesque one-nave church was built around the middle of the 13th century. It is a small church with an elongated semicircular apse, a northern sacristy and a wooden tower on the western side. Its interior and exterior are decorated with rare frescoes. It is dedicated to the patrons of doctors to saint Kozma and Damian. In 1949, the church burned down after being struck by lightning, but it survived and still stands today.
