The PIEŠŤANY edition depicts the pride of the spa town of Piešťany - the Colonnade Bridge on the Váh River, which connects the town of Piešťany with the spa island.
It is the longest covered bridge in Slovakia, which has become a national cultural monument. It was built in the years 1931-1933 according to the project of the prominent Slovak architect Emil Belluš and belongs to the pinnacle of functionalist architecture in Slovakia.
Residents and visitors of Piešťany also know this reinforced concrete bridge as Sklený, for its middle glass partition separating two promenade lanes, containing the glass etchings "Na salaši" and "Songs from Detva", made according to the design of the academic painter Martin Benka.
At the entrance to the bridge, there is a bronze statue of Barlolámač designed by Róbert Kühmayer, which shows the healing power of the Piešťany baths.
The facade of the bridge from the side away from the city is decorated with the inscription SALUBERRIMAE PISTINIENSIS THERMAE, based on Adam Trajan's Latin poem from 1642, The Most Healing Baths in Piešťany. On the side of the island is the quote "Get up and walk" from the Gospel according to Matthew, in which Jesus heals the sick - SURGE ET AMBULA.
Currently, the Piešťany Information Centre is located in the Colonnade Bridge section, where Euro souvenirs will be available for purchase. Visitors and residents of Piešťany can learn more about the history of the Colonnade Bridge here through virtual reality.
