ĽUDMILA PODJAVORINSKÁ

podjavorinska

Ľudmila Riznerová, known as Podjavorinská, was born in the village of Bzince pod Javorinou on April 26, 1872. That is, exactly 150 years ago. She started writing during her student days. She sent her contributions to various periodicals under several pseudonyms. She stood out for her literary maturity and quality, for which she earned the recognition of other important authors of the time. She was the first poet whose poetry collection was published in book form. Despite modest conditions, health problems and solitude, she was brimming with energy and exceptional creativity, in which she often captured the Podjavorin region. From the point of view of pointing out problems in society, her novellas In slavery(1905), Delusion (1906), Woman (1910) and Slave (1914) are important. She dealt with the position of women in society and professionally engaged in journalism. She received the title of national artist. She was part of a group of four female authors (E. Maróthy-Šoltésová, B. Slančíková-Timrava, T. Vansová and Ľ. Podjavorinská) who changed the view of women in literature and today they are among literary classics and required literature.
The period of literary realism brought many well-known names with high-quality works belonging to the Golden Fund of Slovak literature. However, Ľudmila Podjavorinská made her mark in Slovak literary history primarily as an author of children's works. She created several important literary characters and stories that have not lost their popularity and are published in other editions to this day. In children's works, they were animal and children's heroes. Works such as Zajko Bojko (1930), Honey Pot (1930), Lamb of God (1932), Čin-čin (1943), Bells (1942) and others will remain immortal. She died on March 2, 1951 in Nové Mesto nad Váhom. Since 1960, the Ľudmila Podjavorinská Memorial Room commemorating her life, work, and local cultural heritage has been accessible in her home village and home. The memorial room is an exhibit of the Trenčín Museum in Trenčín.

The author of the proposal is Mgr. art. Jozef Česla.

The composition of the edition of Ľudmila Podjavorinská is composed of a portrait from the late period of the writer's life and selected protagonists from the world of fantasy in children's literature, thanks to which the author made a name for herself as the founder of modern Slovak literature for younger people (collections of poems, fairy tales and short stories): Zajko Bojko, Honey pot, Little frog, Čin-čin, To school, Sick teddy bear, Sledding and They're taking him away!
She gave human characteristics to animals and her charming stories won the favour of children. It was the works aimed at young readers that brought Podjavorinská great popularity and are still a must-read for schoolchildren.
In her works, she used several pseudonyms and, in addition to invented names, she also used the names of popular flowers such as Marigold and The mountain cornflower.
On the euro souvenir, the composition is complemented by stylized flowers of the mountain cornflower and meadow bellflower. The text section contains information about the 150th anniversary of the birth of an important Slovak writer, translator and columnist.
