In the past, the city tower in Trenčín served as the main entrance to the city from the south side. It was through it that important visitors and potential enemies came to Trenčín. The tower, which is probably older than the city walls themselves, was also called the Lower Gate or the Turkish Tower. Until the construction of the Jesuit (today Piarist) church, it was the tallest building on the square. It measures 32 meters and has six floors.
