TRNOVEC NAD VÁHOM

trnovec

The village of Trnovec nad Váhom is located on the left bank of the Váh in the eastern part of the Danube Plain. The village area is spread over river floodplains with transverse embankments. It has a mostly flat surface, in the northeastern and eastern parts there are sand dunes that slightly exceed the surrounding terrain. The first written mention of the village can be found in the Zoborská document from 1113, but archaeological research uncovered evidence of settlement in the cadastre of the village from the early Bronze Age, as well as the early and early Iron Age.
Among the landmarks of our village is the Roman Catholic Church of the Transfiguration, which was built and ceremoniously consecrated in 1725. Despite the fact that it was built in the high baroque period, its exterior today has no signs of that period. The church got its current form during the extensive reconstruction in 1911, which was carried out in the style of pseudo-classicism.
Another landmark is the bell tower. It is interesting that the first two floors of the bell tower were built in the second half of the 18th century, and the third floor was added after the First World War. The bell tower is located in the centre of the village, and the municipality requested its entry into the register of national cultural monuments.
The third landmark is the building, originally a noble manor probably rebuilt in 1893 to the seat of the Society against Floods on the left bank of Váh, later it was owned by the church and used as a Roman Catholic parish office. Today, this building is owned by the Municipality of Trnovec nad Váhom.
